There’s not much better than the feeling you experience when diving into a pool on a scorching summer day in Connecticut. That cool, refreshing splash is a staple of what summer in New England is all about.

Whether you’re enjoying a relaxing day by the pool, or having some friends and family over for a pool party, pool safety, especially for children, is a priority.

According to the World Health Organization’s Global Report on Drowning, in the United States, drowning is the 2nd leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children aged 1-14 year olds.

On a daily basis we take actions to protect children from injuries, and time spent at the pool is no different.

Good practice steps include:

  1. Adult supervision. Children must always be supervised in and around the pool.
  2. Setting and posting clear pool rules
  3. Properly installed fencing with locking gates and/or pool netting and alarms.
  4. Swimming classes for children.
  5. Always have someone present who is trained in CPR.

Teenagers and adults should practice pool safety as well. Slip and falls, alcohol consumption, and over exertion can lead to dangerous situations at any age.

Simply having a pool puts you at a greater risk of having an accident occur in your yard. A person who experiences a swimming pool accident may have costly medical bill which often times can end up in a law suit. To protect a Pool Owner in this situation we recommend obtaining Umbrella Liability Insurance Coverage.
